It’s funny how little time we spent in Hana considering our whole day was consumed with a road trip to get there.
We’d left our hotel about 8 hours earlier. If we’d left home and driven that long, we could have almost been to Vegas. But as they say, it’s the journey that counts.
We were starting to get hungry (what with only having some banana bread, a sandwich, coconut ice cream, coconut candy and tons of snacks we’d brought along for the ride), so we pulled up to the Hana Ranch House. Maui Revealed mentioned how they used to say do not eat there no matter what, but they’d actually improved a lot. We can’t say how their food was–we went inside and stood next to the "Please wait to be seated" sign for five minutes with no one acknowledging us. There were a few people at the bar area who kind of glanced our way, but that was it. Figuring it was not a good sign for the service we’d receive, we left.
We continued on the Hana Highway since I had seen some mention of a BBQ place towards the end of town, Bruddah Hutts BBQ. We passed it–and the sign saying last food on the Hana Highway–without realizing what it was. We decided our best bet was to backtrack a bit.
It’s an outdoor BBQ place. We looked at the menu and a lot of it looked delicious. I said to Benson "I think I’ll get the pork ribs" and he said "I’m going to get the chicken." Then we turned to the lady and she said "Just to let you know, we’re out of the pork ribs and chicken." I laughed because I thought she’d heard us and was joking, but unfortunately she wasn’t. I ended up getting the fish tacos which were pretty good.
After we finished our food, we headed out on our way around the south of the island.
